I want to tell you something: if you’re living at 2x speed, it’s okay.
There are times when life really does call for acceleration. Handling ten things at once, staying agile so no plate drops… And before we know it, we’re out of breath, trying to find our way back to center. To recover our balance.
Coming down from 2x doesn’t require a tug-of-war with life. Us pulling against it, against our own need to keep up with everything.
It’s like trying to slam the brakes at 200 km/h: the car will surely skid off the road.
You have to ease onto the brake, keeping the car on the road, while introducing it to a new speed.
We need to be careful not to fall into the logic of duality: either accelerated or zen. Either yes or no. Life doesn’t work that way — it happens in gradients.
Between fully accelerated and totally zen, there are many other speeds. Between 1x and 2x, there is 1.5x (my favorite for the faster days).
2x is not your most productive mode if you move in permanently. It burns you out. Even so, there are days (or phases) when we can only keep up with everything at 2x speed.
So the secret is to dance — a different rhythm each time. Each moment is a different song.
Because it’s by practicing this dance, on purpose, that one day we start dancing without even noticing.
And dancing more beautifully every time.
